New Delhi, 26th Oct. Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday stressed on maintaining discipline and unity within the party and said that there is a lack of clarity and coordination among state level leaders in the party on policy issues.

In the meeting of party general secretaries, state in-charges and state presidents, she fiercely targeted the Narendra Modi government at the Center and called upon the party leaders and workers that if the battle is to be won, then the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s ‘propaganda’ and ‘lies’ have to be exposed in front of the public.

“We have to fight against the malicious propaganda of BJP and RSS. If this fight is to be won then we have to do it with full determination and expose their lies before the public.

Sonia Gandhi asserted, “The All India Congress Committee issues important and detailed statements on various issues every day. But it has been felt that this does not reach our workers at the block and district level. There are policy issues on which I find lack of clarity and coordination and this is also between our state level leaders.

She told the party leaders, “We have to train our workers in such a way that they can counter the malicious propaganda being run by the BJP/RSS. You also have to train our workers in such a way that they fight the battle while maintaining the ideology of Congress and taking it forward.

Sonia Gandhi said, “Our own history is a testimony to the fact that if the organization is to succeed against injustice and inequality, if it is to be an effective advocate for the rights of the weak, then it has to take the form of a mass movement at the grassroots level. ”

“The Modi government has tried to destroy our institutions so that it can evade accountability. It has tried to undermine the core values of the Constitution so that it can set standards for itself at a lower level.”

The Congress President said, “We should give double strength to our fight for the victims of government oppression, be it our farmers and agricultural labourers, youth fighting for employment, small and medium businessmen or our underprivileged brothers and sisters.

Referring to the assembly elections of five states, Sonia said, “In the coming months, assembly elections are going to be held in five states. Congress party workers and leaders are gearing up in these states. Our election campaign should be based on concrete policies and programs that came out after discussions with all sections of the society. “I would like to emphasize again that there is a need for discipline and solidarity. What matters to you and all of us is that the organization is strong. It should be above personal aspirations. In this lies both collective and individual success.”

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, organization general secretary KC Venugopal and other general secretaries, in-charges and presidents of state Congress committees attended the meeting held at the party headquarters. This meeting has taken place in the background of the programs of membership campaign, public awareness campaign on the issue of inflation and organizational elections in the Congress Working Committee meeting.

In the meeting of the Congress Working Committee held on October 16, along with deciding the schedule of organizational elections, it was decided that from November 1, the Congress will run a membership drive, which will continue till March 31 next year. With this, it was decided that between November 14 and 29, a public awareness campaign would be launched on behalf of the Congress on the issue of inflation.
