Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court on Thursday demanding immediate and impartial inquiry against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. Parambir had claimed that Deshmukh had asked police officer Sachin Waje to recover Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants.
The petition said that Deshmukh used to regularly interfere in the functioning of the police and misused his position. According to the petition, in view of Deshmukh’s conduct, investigation needs to be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The IPS officer had moved to the Supreme Court earlier this week, which on Wednesday termed the case as serious. The officer in the court gave the petition against Deshmukh, but the court asked him to move to the Bombay High Court.
He said in his petition to the High Court that in February this year, Deshmukh met several Mumbai police officers including Waje at his residence. As per the petition, in these meetings Deshmukh directed the officials to recover Rs 100 crore every month from various establishments.
