Hyderabad 30th Dec. T. Harish Rao, the state’s health minister, announced at a press conference that Telangana is the first among states with a large population to administer the vaccine to all eligible recipients in the targeted population.
Only states with a smaller population or Union Territories, he said, had reached this milestone, and the national average for dose vaccination is 90%.
The first dose was given to 87,039 people on Tuesday, bringing the total number of people to 2.77 crore.
To commemorate the occasion, the minister cut a cake with Secretary of State for Health S.A.M. Rizvi, Director of Public Health Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, and other officials.
According to the minister, 66.1 percent of the targeted population has received both doses. This was three percentage points higher than the national average of 63%.
Rao stated that the Health Department and other departments would now concentrate on the second dose, as nearly 27 lakh people have yet to receive it.
He predicted that by the second or third week of January, he would have achieved 100% coverage. “If a second dose is required, health workers will go door to door,” he said.
Covid vaccination for children aged 15 to 18 will be launched, according to Rao.
Vaccination will take place in primary health care centres and government-run hospitals. In Hyderabad and other municipal corporations, the state will allow online bookings through the Cowin portal. Children can walk in and get the vaccine in places other than municipal corporations. Covaxin will be given to all of the recipients. The state has 62.79 lakh children between the ages of 15 and 18.
From January 10, citizens over the age of 60 and frontline warriors will receive a booster dose, according to the minister. There are 41.60 lakh people over the age of 60 in the state, with 6.34 lakh frontline warriors such as health workers, municipal employees, police officers, and journalists.
